MCHS XC ’21 performance highlights from NBL #3, March 10 vs. Piner HS on MCHS 2.3 mile XC Campus Course:

 MCHS Team Results:  MCHS XC Varsity and JV Teams sweep victories on this wet, cloudy day on the MCHS campus!  Varsity Boys grab 10 of top 12 spots; Girls going against toughest team competitor this year in the NBL, taking 6 of top 7 spots!   Both JV teams win handily with “perfect scores” of 15 (sweep first 5 spots!); way to go pumas!   

Other Highlights/Noteworthy efforts:

  • Welcome back solid efforts! Junior Noe Vieyra, Sophomore Logan Dawson and Senior Boys, Dante Benedetti and Kyle Hirth  (their first/last race of the high school career!); Sophomore Rebekah Taylor and Junior Brooke Cregan return from injuries and runs great!  …Sophomore dynamic trio of Avery Hedden, Ella Chong and Carmen Jimenez return to action (after “pacing” in Windsor meet), turning in legit Varsity performances!
  • MCHS Campus 2.3 miles New PRs/PR Socks!  9 out of 10 Girls who ran in the Windsor race the week before, improved their times!…For the Boys, 9 out of 13 Boys improved their times from the week before (Note Misha “took it easy” the week before):
  • Noteworthy Racing Performances: Noe Vieyra and Gracie Trenam overall top individual finishers for the day, both running “controlled” first miles, then cutting down pace aggressively!    -Other Highlights from Boys: Sophomores Benji ChoeSean Gubera and Jonathan Donahue all worked together and “raced-up” well at the Varsity level; Logan Dawson solid racing; Noah BlatterMisha Cheek and Jason Page solid improvements week over week; Freshmen led again by Gabe Sitton with Deion Mattice leading rest of Freshmen Boys group.   -Other Highlights from Girls:  Rebekah Taylor took it out aggressive and with more fitness/time to train is sure to be a front of the pack racer; Avery Hedden big jump (already racing fast, now racing at very legit blazing 6:0X pace; previous ’19 season pacing was ~6:30); Brooke Cregan and Ella Chung racing 6:18-6:27 pace is significant jump from previous year at 6:45-ish pace and Carmen Jimenez HUGE jump in training and confidence, from ’19 XC season (where she was running 7:30-8:00 pace, damn!!); big jump for Kira Moe to push pacing to legit varsity 6:30 pace (pushing pace ~:21 seconds faster per mile from previous week!); solid efforts and week-over week improvement from Josephine Rivera-Hoagland with a bunch more Freshmen Girls (the most outstanding girls freshman class we’ve ever had at MCHS) improving well week-over-week and becoming more confident racers: Leyna GorauskasIsabella MathiesenNola McGarvaLily CunibertiMia Carra and Myrea Heaps

Runners of the Week!  … Based on most significant pacing improvement and break-out performance racing:  

Boys = Benji Cho!   :51 second improvement (6.4%) from Windsor meet on the same course, finishing #2 for Varsity Boys, excellent racing Benji, let’s keep this going; you can be a big part of the Varsity Boys team this upcoming Fall!  

Girls = Kira Moe! :48 second improvement (5.1%) from Windsor meet on the same course, finishing #7 for very deep Varsity Girls team and running the fastest pace for any Freshman girl this season at 6:34/mile, way to push-it Kira!
